Groundsheets

Unlike most tent companies, our groundsheets are not made from PVC. PVC is the most environmentally damaging of all plastics. It uses vast amounts of chlorine in it’s production which emits dioxin, known as one of the most toxic chemicals ever produced. There is no level of dioxin which is considered safe to use, thus any dose, no matter how low, can result in severe health damage including infertility, immune system damage, impaired childhood development, hormone disruption, cancer and many other harmful effects.

Our groundsheets have left PVC well alone. They are constructed of two parts, a woven fabric and a PU coating.

The woven part is made from 100% UNIFI’s REPREVE® recycled polyester yarn, which is specially sourced from plastic bottles which are at high risk of ending up in the ocean.

The PU coating is made of 100% recycled windscreen and construction films, having been melted down and re-made into waterproof recycled plastic film. For every 1kg of recycled PU coating used it reduces water consumption by 53kg and carbon emissions by 17kg.
